Summer
Hello
everyone! I hope the school year has been going well for you all! Sadly,
summer is over, but over the summer our 2009-2010 officer team had two
chances to really begin our work. The first time we really had a chance
to get to know everyone was at Nationals in Anaheim, California. Our
officer team took advantages of the many workshops and speakers, even
though Kate and Taylor were unable to join us in the sunshine state. We
got the chance to attend many leadership building activities and to bond
as well.
The next time our team was able to meet was this past
July in Pierre. We completed officer training, learned how to edit the
state webpage, and set up our program of work. This meeting was a great
place for our whole team to learn about each other, especially about
each other's strengths and weaknesses. I believe that these activities
were a great way to get the year started.
Our team will be meeting again at the OLI in September. Hope to see
you all there! |
September
First of all, I would like
to thank every one who attended and participated in the 2009-2010
OLI/FLC. This session was a great way to kick off our year, and a chance
for state officers to meet with local officers. Focus Training lead our
leadership experience again this year, and were energetic and engaging.
Besides preparing for the OLI/FLC as state officers we
passed our first due-date for program of work goals September 15. All
advisors also have a copy of the program of work. Contact chapters were
assigned, and requests for local officer information were submitted.

Halloween was the
perfect way to kick of a spectacular month. Our local Redfield chapter
put on a haunted school in conjunction with FCCLA's haunted locker room.
We raised almost $600 and donated $300 dollars to a local family whose
youngest child has suffered medical complications. Our members had a
great time scaring the town and raising a little money. We think it was
an exciting way to fundraise, and definitely unusual. I hope everyone
else had a great Halloween! |

Hi everyone! Hope your Thanksgiving went well, and
that everyone is looking forward to Christmas and New Years! Our FBLA
officers are busy completing our program of work. The t-shirt contest
deadline passed a short while ago, and anyone with questions about that
can ask the state secretary, Sheby Thayer. I have been working on
compiling all of our local officer data. I am extremely thankful to
those towns that have been sending me their data! This is extremely
appreciated. Parliamentarian Kate Nuhsbaumer is also starting work on
the state website. Reporter Laurissa Birdsall recently put out the
second addition of our state newsletter. Look for all these changes and
more to be completed in the holiday season! Have a happy and safe
holiday! |

Happy New Year! I hope that everyone
thoroughly enjoyed their break. I spent mine in London, cheering with a
UCA squad in the London New Year's Day Parade. I wasn't the only one who
was busy, either. Our state FBLA officers have all been busy on their
own projects to keep our state organization running smoothly! Another
edition of the state newsletter was released. FBLA is also working on
expansions and visiting new chapters. Lastly, our state officers have
been working to set up contacts for Legislative Shadow Days, February
2nd. |
| January
Plans for Legislative Shadow Days have been finalized and we are all
excited to be visiting the capital. I will be shadowing Kristi Noem.
This month has been spent planning Legislative Shadow Days, working on
the program of work, and collecting more local officer information.

| February
Our Legislative Shadow Day went great. We started the day bright and
early with a breakfast with our legislatures. I ended up shadowing Jim
Hunsted and had an exciting and educational day. Our board of directors
meeting went extremely well and we talked about making an advisor
handbook, funding, and new chapters. Our officer meeting also went very
well. We decided to transfer money to a Class C international money
market account because of our profits in the past year. As an officer
team we also decided to endorse an amendment to the bylaws that would
allow 3 members from any chapter to run. We chose to support this
because of the shortage of applicants for state positions, and we felt
it was wrong to tell someone they couldn't run although we couldn't fill
all the positions.
